3 Steps to Increasing Down Syndrome Awareness

Happy-GivingToday is #GivingTuesday. Here are 3 easy steps you can take today to increase Down syndrome awareness with medical professionals and new and expectant parents.

  1. Click on the Donate button to the right (or click the link here). This will take you to the University of Kentucky’s on-line giving page for the National Center for Prenatal & Postnatal Down Syndrome Resources.
  2. Enter your information and donation amount. I usually suggest increments of 21 in recognition of Trisomy 21, but any amount is appreciated. Click submit at the bottom of the page.
  3. Enter your credit card information to make your donation.

That’s it. In those three easy steps you will have supported an organization that in 2015 sent out 8,000 free books between Lettercase’s Understanding a Down Syndrome Diagnosis, the resource recognized by all major professional medical organizations for expectant moms receiving a positive test result, and Down Syndrome Pregnancy’s Diagnosis to Delivery, the recommended resource for expectant moms choosing to continue their pregnancy after a positive test result.

Your donation increases Down syndrome awareness by supporting the National Center which has engaged in these other efforts in 2015 as well:

  • Presented at the annual conferences for the following organizations: American College of Medical Genetics & Genomics (ACMG), Down Syndrome Affiliates in Action (DSAIA), National Society for Genetic Counselors (NSGC), Down Syndrome Medical Interest Group (DSMIG), International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis (ISPD), American Society for Bioethics & Humanities (ASBH), National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC), and the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD);
  • Added these additional publications to the National Center’s offeringsCoping with LossWelcoming a Newborn with Down Syndrome, and Spanish translations of Diagnosis to Delivery and Welcoming a Newborn; and,
  • Trained local Down syndrome support organizations on engaging in effective medical outreach.

Thank you in advance for considering to support the National Center on #GivingTuesday. By following the three easy steps, you will be increasing Down syndrome awareness among medical professionals and new and expectant parents.

    This is great, Mark. One thing I often find helpful is when an organization gives some information about how much their activities cost – e.g., how much does it cost to send booklets to one doctor? how much for one month’s worth of booklets? how much does it cost to develop a booklet? and so on.

    Of course, I know any amount is a step in the right direction! Y’all do great work over there and I’m so proud to support you.
