Prenatal testing for Down syndrome webinar, March 3rd

Non Invasive Prenatal Screening NIPS BrandsUPDATE: The National Center for Prenatal & Postnatal Down Syndrome Resources and the Association of University Centers on Disabilities are co-sponsoring a webinar Monday, March 3, 2014, 12:00 – 1:30, EST. Please note the new date, March 3rd. I will be co-presenting with Dr. Brian Skotko about the newest prenatal testing for Down syndrome and how Down syndrome support organizations can respond to questions from media and members. The webinar is free.

The webinar was rescheduled as it inadvertently conflicted with another webinar of interest for many of our attendees.

From the invitation:

With new reports about prenatal testing appearing nearly every week, many have questions about what it is and how a Down syndrome support organization can respond to inquiries from members and the media. This webinar co-sponsored by the University of Kentucky’s National Center for Prenatal and Postnatal Down Syndrome Resources and the Association of University Centers on Disability (AUCD) will address these growing questions members have about prenatal testing.

Dr. Brian Skotko is a medical geneticist and pediatrician who co-directs the Massachusetts General Hospital’s Down Syndrome Program. Brian also has a younger sister with Down syndrome.

Mark Leach is an attorney who serves as the bioethics specialist for the National Center for Prenatal and Postnatal Down Syndrome Resources. Mark also has a daughter with Down syndrome.

Both Brian and Mark have chaired their respective Down syndrome organization’s board.

Brian and Mark will cover the basics of conventional prenatal testing and the newest advances receiving all the media coverage. A helpful bullet-point fact sheet about the available prenatal tests will be provided to all participants. Brian and Mark will also discuss possible responses to members and press asking about prenatal testing and the position local groups have about the new testing, as well as medically-reviewed resources available for medical outreach.

Please join us Monday, March 3, 2014, from 12:00 – 1:30 pm, EST to learn about the new prenatal testing for Down syndrome and how Down syndrome support groups can respond when asked about it.
